On July 18, 2023, the Canadian Sports Institute Ontario (CSIO) invited press and media to make a special announcement. There, Minister Neil Lumsden, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, & Sport, with Debbie Low, Ian Gordon, and Britney Maclean; announced CSIO’s funding from the Government of Ontario. CSIO will receive $4.2 million from the Ontario Government in the next two years.

The funds received will be used towards supporting high performance sport in Ontario, this including: Coaches, Athletes, and funding towards mental health initiatives in the high-performance sport system. OHPSI, a 2010 high-performance sport system, since its creation has supported over 4500 Ontario athletes in coaching, mental health, training, camps, sport science, and sports medicine.

As the Olympic and Paralympic Games are yet to come in the next 5 years, the OHPSI intake will support 20 sport training programs and meet the needs for mental health support for Ontario athletes. The assistance of government funding for high-performance sports will allow provincial Ontario athletes to get any support they need; including wellness check and consultations.

CSIO, which is part of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network, is committed to delivering sports science, medicine, services, coaching, and support to help Canadian athletes all over Canada. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sports is dedicated to deliver experiences and championships in sport and activities across Ontario. With the help of the Canadian Government, high-performance sport athletes will now be able to get the assistance they need as well as better support so they can continue to bring more championships back to Ontario.
