தமிழின அழிப்பு நினைவகம் – அடிக்கல் நாட்டும் நிகழ்வு – ஆகஸ்ட் 14, 2024

ஆகஸ்ட் 14, 2024ல் கனடாவில் உள்ள பிராம்ப்டன் நகரில் அமைந்திருக்கும் சிங்குசி பூங்காவில் தமிழின அழிப்பு நினைவகத்திற்கான அடிக்கல் நாட்டப்பட்ட நிகழ்வானது கனடாவிலும் உலகெங்கிலும் உள்ள தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு ஒரு முக்கிய மைல்கல்லாக அமைந்தது. தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு எதிராக இடம்பெற்ற இன அழிப்பிற்கான அனைத்துலக அங்கீகாரம், சர்வதேச பொறுப்புக்கூறல் மற்றும் பரிகார நீதி ஆகியவற்றை அடைவதற்கான தமிழ் மக்களின் நீண்ட பயணத்தில், இது ஒரு முக்கியமான மைல்கல் ஆகும்.

பிரம்டன் மேயர் பட்றிக் பிரவுன் தொடர்ந்து இத் திட்டத்திற்கு கொடுக்கும் தலைமைத்துவத்திற்கும், முழுமையாக வழங்கும் ஆதரவிற்கும் உளமார்ந்த நன்றியை கனடியத் தமிழர் தேசிய அவை (NCCT) தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கின்றது.

இந்த சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் பிராம்ப்டன் நகர சபை மற்றும் பிராம்ப்டன் நகரம் தொடர்ந்து வழங்கும் ஆதரவிற்கும் நன்றியைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கின்றோம்.

தமிழ்க் கனடியர்களின் வரலாற்றில் பதிந்துள்ள இந்த வேலைத்திடத்தில் பங்களித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் பிராம்ப்டன் தமிழ் ஒன்றியம் (BTA), பிராம்ப்டன் தமிழ் மூத்தோர் கழகம் (BTSA), ஏனைய அமைப்புகள், பங்குதாரர்கள் மற்றும் தனிநபர்களின் கூட்டு முயற்சிகளுக்கு நன்றியைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கின்றோம்.

அடிக்கல் நாட்டு நிகழ்வை சில தமிழின அழிப்பு மறுப்பாளர்கள் குழப்பும் முயற்சியை மேற்கொண்ட போதிலும் எந்தத் தடங்கலும் இன்றி அடிக்கல் நாட்டு நிகழ்வு மிகச் சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றது.

மேயர் பட்றிக் பிரவுன் நிகழ்வில் ஆற்றிய உரையில் ஓரிடத்தில் கீழ்வருமாறு குறிப்பிட்டார்:

“இலங்கை அரசாங்கத்திற்கு ஒரு செய்தியை சொல்ல விரும்புகின்றேன். இன அழிப்பை மறுப்பவர்களை நாங்கள் வரவேற்கவில்லை. இன அழிப்பைப் புரிந்த இலங்கை அரசின் வெளிநாட்டுத் தலையீட்டை எதிர்த்து நடவடிக்கை எடுக்குமாறு கனடா அரசாங்கத்தை வலியுறுத்துகிறோம்.”

பிராம்ப்டனில் தமிழின அழிப்பு நினைவக அமைப்புப் பணியை நாம் வெற்றிகரமாகத் தொடங்கி இருக்கும் இவ் வேளையில், தமிழின அழிப்பு மறுத்தலுக்கும் மற்றும் திரிபுபடுத்துதலுக்கும் எதிராக தொடர்ந்து போராடுவதற்கு தமிழ் மக்களாக நாம் ஒன்றிணைந்து செயல்படுவோம் எனக் கேட்டுக் கொள்கின்றோம்.

August 14th, 2024 was a milestone for the Tamil people in Canada and across the world as the Tamil Genocide Monument foundation stone was laid at the Chinguacousy Park in Brampton, Canada. In the Tamil people’s long resilient journey in seeking international recognition, international accountability and remedial justice for the genocide committed against Tamil people by the Sri Lankan state, this is an important milestone.

National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT) takes this opportunity to sincerely thank and acknowledge the leadership, effort and the fullest support of Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. NCCT also likes to thank Brampton city council and the city of Brampton. We also thank and acknowledge the collective efforts of Brampton Tamil Association (BTA), Brampton Tamil Seniors’ Association (BTSA), other partnering organizations, stakeholders and individuals who have contributed to this milestone in the history of Tamil Canadians.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony faced an attempted disruption by Tamil genocide deniers. Despite this, the event was successfully held without any interruptions. Mayor Patrick Brown said “I have a message to Sri Lanka. We don’t welcome genocide deniers”. We urge the government of Canada to take action in combating foreign interference by the genocidal Sri Lankan state.

As we successfully begin the construction of the Tamil Genocide Monument in Brampton, we must come together collectively as Tamil people to continue combatting Tamil Genocide denial and distortion.
