Scarborough ON – Family members of Mr. Abu Bakr Sayed, a 65-year-old senior who was killed by an impaired driver on December 11, 2021, will be hosting a remembrance rally to mark one year since the untimely passing of their loved one.
The rally will be taking place on Sunday, December 11 at Midland Avenue and Broadbent Avenue from 11:30 am onwards.
“We recognize this is not an isolated incident in Toronto. There are numerous victims’ families who are experiencing the same nightmares” said Mr. Azfer Sayed, Mr. Abu Bakr Sayed’s younger brother, “we can only demand stronger legislation to ensure road safety.”
Doly Begum, the local Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough Southwest has introduced critical road safety legislation to ensure proper consequences and re-education for unsafe driving and justice for victims
and their families. MPP Begum and the Ontario New Democrats tabled Bill 40, Moving Ontarians Safely Act, 2022 as one of the measures to address the disproportionate amount of road safety incidents across Scarborough, with the support of community advocates like Mr. Sayed’s family and road safety advocacy organizations.
