யாழ்ப்பாண . பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் தமிழ்த் தேசிய முன்னெடுப்புகளுக்கு அரணாக நின்றவர் பேராசிரியர் ரட்ணம் விக்னேஸ்வரன் என நேற்று முன்தினம் இடம் பெற்ற அன்னாரது இறுதி அஞ்சலி நிகழ்வின் போது பல்கலைக் கழகத்தின் கைலாசபதி அரங்கில் நடைபெற்ற உரையரங்கில் உரையாற்றிய பத்தி எழுத்தாளரும் அவரது பழைய மாணவருமான , ஐ.வி மகாசேனன். புகழாரம் சூட்டினார்

யாழ் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் முன்னாள் துணைவேந்தரும் கணிதத்துறை பேராசிரியருமான ரட்ணம் விக்னேஸ்வரன் அவர்கள் கடந்த 17.02.2023 அன்று காலமானார். அவரது பதவிக்காலத்தில் தமிழ்த் தேசிய செயற்பாடுகளுக்கு துணை நின்ற காரணத்தினால் அவரது துணைவேந்தர் பதவி இடைநடுவில் பறிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. பல்கலைக்கழகத்துக்குள் இராணுவ தலையீடுகள் காரணமாக பதவியிழக்க வைக்கப்பட்டமை அவருக்கு இழைக்கப்பட்ட அநீதி எனவும், வடக்கு – கிழக்கு பல்கலைக்கழக சமூகம் பேராசிரியரை முன்னிறுத்தி போராடி நீதியை பெறுவதே விக்னேஸ்வரன் அவர்களுக்கு செலுத்தும் மெய்யான அஞ்சலி எனவும் தெரிவித்தார் பத்தி எழுத்தாளரும், அரசறிவியல் துறை மாணவனுமான ஐ.வி மகாசேனன்.

அன்னாரது மறைவையொட்டி அவுஸ்த்திரேலியாவின் மல்பேர்ன் பல்கலைக் கழகத்தில் பொறியியல் துறையில் பேராசிரியராகப் பணியாற்றும் கலாநிதி குமாரவேலு கணேசன் அவர்கள் அனுப்பிவைத்துள்ள அஞ்சலிக்குறிப்பில் பின்வருமாறு தெரிவிக்கப்பெற்றுள்ளது

Our dear friend and former colleague, Prof Ratnam Vigneswaran,

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we remember the passing of a truly remarkable individual, who made a significant impact in the field of mathematics and in the lives of those he touched.

Prof Ratnam Vigneswaran was a distinguished academic who completed his degree at the University of Jaffna in 1983. He joined the Eastern University of Sri Lanka (EUSL) in 1984 as an assistant lecturer, where he spent 25 years of his life serving as Head of department, Dean, and President of the Teachers union, particularly during the troubled times of the Eastern province. His devotion to excellence in mathematics and to the excellence of his nation is immeasurable.

In 1993, he earned his PhD in Mathematics at the University of Sussex, a testament to his dedication and commitment to his field. He continued to serve at the EUSL till 2010, and then moved to the University of Jaffna (UOJ) where he served as Head of the department, Dean, and finally as Vice Chancellor of UOJ.

Prof Ratnam Vigneswaran was an outstanding teacher and mentor, who was always ready to offer his guidance and support to his students and colleagues. His exceptional work in the field of mathematics and his unwavering commitment to the betterment of his community will be remembered for generations to come.

We have lost a true academic and leader, but his legacy will live on. His unwavering commitment to excellence, his love for his community, and his dedication to the betterment of the nation will continue to inspire and guide us.

As we reflect on the life and accomplishments of Prof Ratnam Vigneswaran, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, dear friend and colleague.
